@ oli - good question!

I've taken a little break from this website for a short while, while I'm in Europe and competing on the windsurfing tour. I've also been involved in some other projects so I haven't had enough time to do the research for these articles. But I'm not neglecting it! I get back home to Australia in early December straight after the final FW GP-Tour event in Brazil.

So I will get back to writing articles in early December again, when I'm behind a computer on a 'desk' rather than in the front seat of my van on the road :-/

At the moment some friends of mine (with my help) are putting together a tuning/trim guide together for ALL the current 2008 FW boards which we will release on the site "hopefully" fairly soon.

If there's anything in particular people might want me to write about - feel free to make some suggestions and I'll try to get something together. While I'm in Europe I can tap in to the knowledge of all the Pro's on the tour, so its a great opportunity to find things out.

Thanks for reading ;)

@ Rafa - thanks for that! I managed to find that on FW.org after some research also.

I never made it to the 2007 Europeans but it looked like a great spot from the photos. Will be looking forward to the event.

Great! We can only hope that North America gets the gong for the event down the track...

I hadn't heard where in Spain they were thinking of having the 2009 Worlds? I thought that was decided at the AGM during the 2008 Worlds?

Yep, that's the spot. And Jesper left quite an impression as a nice guy and fast sailor.

I remember the Aussie contingent that came to the 04 Nationals in SF. Great group of guys, and keen racers all. No need for an 8.2 in SF, btw, but a 9.0 is always a good idea there (10 seems to be the median size in the locals' quivers, flanked by 9's and 11's).

With a little forethought and planning, Worlds in either spot could be timed in such as way that it could be the culmination of the West Coast racing schedule - which would then result in a great series of lead-up events. That way, visiting/traveling sailors could make it as long a trip as they'd like, with tons of great racing to keep them busy (and tons of fun stuff to do when not sailing).

Yeap, all the Aussie guys who have raced in San Fran have only great things to say about the place and the race organisation. I would be there in a flash (although I'd probably have to go out and buy a 9.0m or an 8.2m!).

Is it Hood River where they do most of the FW racing in the Gorge? Think I remember talking to Jesper Vesterstrom who competed at the FW North Americans a few years back in that spot; he also had great things to say about the venue.

If Ceri is serious about North America for the 2010 or 2011 Worlds, he should be looking at working with either the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco or VMG Events (organizers of past FE Worlds, FW Northamericans, US Nationals, and the long-standing grass-roots Gorge Cups). Two excellent venues:
- High probability of running 15 races to max out the schedule
- Very scenic (a video produced in either place would make for awesome promotion for the sport)
- Spectator-friendly locations
- Strong local fleets by US standards
- Good international flight connections (PDX for the Gorge, SFO for SF)
- Did I mention high probability of wind?
